Is Yoga Compatible with Christianity

After reading this blog today and having practiced yoga again for the past 6 months I am now feeling convicted (honestly I have been feeling convicted for the past few months).. fellow Christians what do you think? Read reference below.

As Christians we must guard our hearts and minds, ‘always watchful and of sober mind’ as Peter instructed the Church. Thank God for the Holy Spirit that guides us and directs our paths while we are here on this Earth! God knew all of this and it is not surprise to him that’s why his word instructs us in times likes this..

18′We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the One who was born of God keeps them safe, and the evil one cannot harm them. 19We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one. 20We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true by being in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life. 21Dear children, keep yourselves from idols,’ 1 John 5:18-21.

  1. I don’t think that the powers of Satan can necessarily stake claim to this form of exercise. There are many postures and stretches in yoga that are beneficial to the body and have health benefits… In my opinion, if you aren’t using it as a form of worship to false Gods, then it really is just exercise, stretching, and relaxing. But that is just my thought. I really can’t speak it with any definite authority. I think it might be good to speak to your pastor about it and get his input on it. God bless.

    1. Thanks so much for your comments! I do love to stretch and keep flexible, but my heart is discontented now that I’ve read several blogs and researched the spiritual implications of yoga. It may seem like nothing, but in the spiritual realm it is different even if not intential. That being said, i feel it doesn’t honor my God to continue with this practice. Exodus 34:14.

      1. I think you are making the right choice. Particularly if it is causing a strain on your conscience, and you think you aren’t honoring God by practicing it. I’m sure you will find an exercise regime that is less controversial.
